Butt team in hot form on cold day at trials

Monday May 26, 2014

It was a good day out for West Melton trainer, Tim Butt at the Rangiora trials today despite the icy weather conditions.

Tim lined up five runners for three wins (Franco Harrington, Gregory R, Motu Prince Of Peru), while Gotta Go Artelect ran third and Prestine finished 6th, all driven by his niece, junior driver Kimberly Butt.

As one of New Zealand’s top-performing trainers, with 28 winners on the board so far this season, and $383,968 in stake money for his owners, Tim was asked what he thought of the current minimum stake of $5000.

“Far too low,’’ he said.

“It is becoming impossible to attract new owners into the game because of the low stakes.’’ You take a horse to Forbury and there is nothing in it,’’ he said.
